This table records the progress of the funeral planning sector following the advent of FCA regulation and the formation of the National Association of Funeral Plan Providers in 2023. The information relates to NAFPP members. Providers have joined the Association through the reporting period, and this is the principal reason the opening volumes may not always match the closing volume of the previous reporting period.

The past six months has seen steady progress for the sector. As inflation has fallen and if we see rising numbers of plans being purchased and when compared with the government data published to date the proportion of UK funerals financed by a prepaid funeral plan continues** to rise.

The existing plans figure* does not match the previous closing volume due to adjustments made to allow for changing membership, database cleansing by member firms, transfers between members, cancelations and other amendments.
**According to ONS and NRS, the total number of deaths in England, Scotland, and Wales for the six-month period to June 2024 was approximately 326,012. This means the proportion of funerals funded by pre-paid plans was 18.4% of all funerals in H1 2024.
